2018 State of the Restoration Industry

A recent survey of the restoration and remediation (R&R) industry reveals that the sector has a bright future, with two-thirds of contractors saying their revenues were up this year and expected them to continue rising or stay the same. Mark Maier, vice president of marketing and sales for the Enviroguard Division of Paradigm Labs, says, "Traditionally, the R&R industry has focused on curative services alone. By that, I mean when there's a problem, our industry provides the solution. With that view, it's easy to understand why most customers are considered once and done opportunities. The truth is that structures have consistent problems and 60 percent of all structures right now have some sort of moisture issue." Companies are now turning toward services that provide consistent revenue streams, such as developing moisture control systems, scheduled indoor air quality and disinfection, forensic cleanup, and drug residue removal. These new services require investments in new technology, including 360-degree cameras, 3D scans, drones, and more. Companies also are looking to reduce the use of toxic chemicals, though more needs to be done to ensure that staff are well trained about proper care standards and practices.
