Mike Davis, CR, WLS, is the owner of All American Cleaning and Restoration in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The company was started in 1978 by Mike and his wife, Norma. All American Cleaning and Restoration is a full-service company and a licensed general contractor. The company prides itself on doing the best work possible for each and every project. The company helps charities like Eastern Idaho Hospice and local churches. Mike’s best friends are also his peers in the industry. Here, he shares his thoughts on the industry’s past, present and future.

1. What is the biggest trend shaping the future of restoration today?

I believe technology is changing and will continue to change the restoration industry. When I started in 1978, there were no computers, email, cell phones, digital photos, thermal imagining, GPS, 3D graphics, talk to text, SteraMist™ technology, Business Software, third-party administrators … the list goes on. I can still remember where I was when I received my first fax!

2. What do you like most about being in the restoration industry?

I've always loved meeting people at their worst, with damaged property in their homes and businesses, knowing in my heart that when we are done, they are going to be blown away.

3. What is one piece of professional advice you have for the incoming generation of restorers?

It is hard to make money in restoration today. You need to be disciplined enough to really save and grow substantial savings accounts for difficult times and circumstances that may not be in your control. I think they call it “life.”

4. Where do you find fulfillment in your professional work?

A core value in our company is, “Customer satisfaction and doing your best for each and every client we serve.” I have had the pleasure of a very satisfying, fulfilling professional life.

5. What resources ― other than RIA — do you turn to for professional growth, industry education and news?

Aside from RIA, I turn to SCT, IICRC, DKI NAHB and BBB. I served on the board for BBB for 10 years. Most importantly, I turn to my friends and peers in the industry: Marty King, founder of the CR program, and Ed York, the founding father of SCT, DKI, and IICRC. York was instrumental in making the industry what it is today.
