Effort Launched to Help Employers Comply with Labor Laws

The U.S. Department of Labor announced the creation of the Office of Compliance Initiatives (OCI), which will work with enforcement agencies to improve their effectiveness and use of data, increase outreach to both employers and employees to prevent violations, and help companies understand their responsibilities. One of its first initiatives will include revamping the website for workers on their rights. The aim is to help companies comply with regulations before finding they have run afoul of labor laws. However, U.S. Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta said the creation of OCI does not mean that the department will be any less rigorous in punishing companies that flout regulations. The OCI will be funded with existing resources.
