How to Deploy Effective Hurricane Restoration Efforts

In the aftermath of a hurricane, restoration and remediation professionals must take steps to effectively combat the risks associated with floodwaters and mold growth. The right cleaners, sanitizers, and disinfectants must be selected, and at a minimum, they should seek products that are registered by the Environmental Protection Agency, meaning they have been proven effective against biological contaminants and can reliably disinfect and sanitize surfaces subject to microbial contamination. Next, they should follow a three-step process to completely eliminate mold and protect the home from future damage: cleaning with a disinfected product applicable to porous surfaces, or removing porous surfaces if more than 72 hours have passed, then cleaning beams and studs with a mold and mildew stain remover product; eliminating lingering microbial contamination using a disinfectant sanitizer; and treating surfaces with a final antimicrobial coating that inhibits any future growth and spread of mold and mildew.
