New flooring technology can help commercial facilities maintain their flooring with minimal care and expense and fewer toxic products. Luxury vinyl tile, for instance, is available in a variety of patterns with smooth or textured surfaces and a clear vinyl protective layer. It does not require polishing, buffing, or burnishing, and it offers the feel and look of wood without having to strip and refinish it like a traditional wooden floor. Cleaning luxury vinyl tile involves simply drying dusting it regularly, and periodically wet mopping it with a neutral cleaner. Meanwhile, high-build finish systems essentially are made of a plastic film that can be applied in multiple layers to maximize performance, and they can go two to five years before the protective layer needs to be completely stripped and reapplied. These systems are ideal for schools and other high-traffic areas that are susceptible to scuffs and heel marks, allowing cleaning technicians to scrub and add one or two layers of finish every few months.
